Mapping Methodism – Bottoms (possibly Primitive Methodist) Chapel
Categories Mapping Methodism0 Comments
Bottoms is north and east of Polgigga. This profile of Bottoms Chapel has been compiled by Jo Lewis and Tony Mansell.
There was a chapel in Bottoms which was dilapidated by the time of the new chapel build at Polgigga. It is not marked on 1878 maps. It is possible this was a Primitive Methodist as was there was one recorded in St Levan in 1895, but this is not known.
Unknown location.
1831: Build date. (Methodism in West Penwith – A Heritage at Risk)
Seating for 110. (Methodism in West Penwith – A Heritage at Risk.
Pre-1869: Closure date albeit it was in a weak state. (Methodism in West Penwith – A Heritage at Risk)
1869?: Chapel dilapidated. Replaced by St Levan (Little Trethewey) 1869 (Methodism in West Penwith – A Heritage at Risk)
1884: … whilst others attended the Bottoms chapel, to hear the service of song given by the choir there. (Cornishman – Thursday 16 October 1884) Could it be that Bottoms Chapel was re-built or was the replacement chapel referred to by the old name?
