The Polruan Methodist Chapels have been profiled by Jo Lewis and Tony Mansell

 

Located in Fore Street.

1879: Build date.

Built as a United Methodist Free Church. (SWChurches)

Seating: 300. (David Easton, Methodist Historian)

It is a stone building built at a cost of £1,050 for 320 sittings (Kelly’s 1902).

There are records of baptisms from 1883.

1907: The Methodist New Connexion, Bible Christians and United Methodist Free Churches amalgamated to become the United Methodist Church.

1907: Became Fore Street United Methodist Church.

1932: The Wesleyan, Primitive Methodist and the United Methodist Church amalgamated to become the Methodist Church of Great Britain.

1932: Became Fore Street Methodist Church.

1948 & 1952: Reference to a Sunday school in Chapel Lane. (Newquay Express and Cornwall County Chronicle – Thursday 10 June 1948 & Thursday 17 April 1952) Could this have been a pre-1879 chapel?

1958: Chapel closed and the congregation united with West Street Methodist Church. (David Easton, Methodist Historian)

There are minutes from 1877 -1962

Records for sale 1959-60.

1890: Consent was given on specified conditions to the sale of Polruan Chapel. (Manchester Courier – Thursday 10 July 1890)

Became a private residence with part conversion to an Airbnb.
