Ebenezer, Valley Lane, Carnon Downs is an isolated location a short distance north of Canon Downs and west of Quenchwell. This profile of Carnon Downs (Ebenezer) Chapel has been compiled by Jo Lewis.

 

From The centre of the village, take Manse road north to Valley Lane, following this road until it becomes a track. Ebenezer house was on the right just after the ford.

1824: The first record of a Methodist service in Carnon Downs is when Edward Budd held an open-air service.

Build date unknown.

Edward Olive who was a leading light in the local Methodist movement leased a parcel of land where he built his house, calling it Ebenezer which was used as a chapel / meeting house and Sunday school. (Feock Trails – History Information)

Closure date unknown.

The original house has been knocked down in favour of this new dwelling. (Feock Trails – History Information)

A neighbour, who used to live in the old house, knew it as a meeting house, although there was no remaining trace of this use.
