On Cornish Cliffs

Categories Poetry0 Comments

Elizabeth Jane Timms returns with the latest poem in her Cornish themed series. On Cornish Cliffs is motivated by the stunning natural landscapes that can be found in the vicinity of Fowey.

As if it had been found in a hedgerow,

There was a wildness in this heart –

Like a purse full of purple heather

That I had gathered; like a bag filled with pebbles.

I loved you with my surroundings,

With a heart that belonged to these billowing cliffs,

I loved you with fields and rocks and the untamed wind.

For these hills are the greatest emotions that I can harbour,

And for you to wander upon them with me,

Is for us to be roaming that love.

Behold, it was your face that was fading beneath my horizons,

Instead of the disappearing sun.

When I lay down the brush,

For no palette could capture this.
