St Keverne is a village on The Lizard in Cornwall. This profile of St Keverne Methodist Church has been compiled by Terry Moyle.
Built 1970-1971 on land given by Mrs. Katie Coad in 1967.
Next to the St. Keverne Methodist Chapel (1907 building).
The need for a new hall to replace the outdated Ark had been going on for more than a decade during the ministries of Revs. Peter Grose, Arnold Robertshaw and Baynard Evans.
Building fund opened in 1964 and fund – raising activities started immediately and continued until 1971. These included a regular subscription system, many donations the sale of Porthoustock chapel and the Ark and numerous events.
Cost approximately £6,000.
Mrs. Coad laid the Foundation Stone on 10th October 1970.
Other stones were “laid” by Mrs. Mary Lane (the oldest member of the Society), Mr. Norman Tonkin (for the Trustees), Miss Ann Carkeek (for the Sunday School), Mr. John Eustice (for the Choir), Mr. Jack Evans (for the Guild), Miss Wendy Harris (for the Young Ladies’ Choir) and Mrs. Miriam Moyle (for the Section Women’s Fellowship).
In addition, 30 more “In Memoriam Stones” were laid as well as over 100 “Individual Stones”.
Opened 24th April 1971 by Kenneth Kendall.
Many gifts were received including the heating system, the piano, the chairs, the kitchen equipment, the classroom fittings and all the crockery.

The back of the Hall – today there is a large car park behind the Hall instead of a garden
Building also used extensively by village organisations in addition to chapel activities.
Used as hall until 2014 when it became the Methodist Chapel – the 1907 building was closed and the congregation moved into the Hall for services.
Became United Methodist Church, St. Keverne in January 2017 with the joining of the St. Keverne & Ponsongath congregations.
The first united service was a Covenant Service (members of the Parish Church always attend this service), a reception into membership and the commissioning of the new church. According to the Helston packet 180 people attended this service.
